Passage: Joshua 1:1-16

Preacher: Dr. Doug McCart

Category: Living The Christian Life

Summary

Do we really trust God with our lives and our future? The Israelites ended up wandering in the desert for 40 years because of their inability to trust God and do what He commanded them to do. In Joshua 1:1-16 God gave specific guidance to Joshua about how thing were to be done in order to cross over into the promise land. He did not make suggestions and/or ask Joshua for his opinion, He was very clear to Joshua about how it was to be done. No modifications, no changes and no complaining or whining .. just do it Do we trust God enough to just do what He tells us to do?

Detail

The Israelites had wandered in the desert for 40 years and it was time for them to cross the Jordan River and take the Promised Land.  The only two left of the original group that had left Egypt was Joshua and Caleb, were  two of the twelve that God had chosen to spy out the land and come back and report what they found to the rest of the Israelites.  They came back and gave a great report and knew that they could take the land if they did what God told them.  The other 10 gave negative reports and were very afraid and unwilling to fight those in the Promised Land.   God punished them for their disbelief and made them wander in the desert for 40 years until all the people 20 and over had passed away.   Now was the time.  The Children of Israel were ready and they did not hesitate to do what God ordered them to do. They did it trusting that He would show them the way and keep them safe.
