Category: Living The Christian Life

Keywords: calling, disobedience, running, whining, complaining, plans, hiding, right, doing, ignoring

Summary

There is a price to be paid for disobeying God when you are called by Him to do a certain task or become what He calls you to become. Refusing to do it or complaining about it and choosing not to do it has consequences. He does not condone those actions and will take actions to ensure that you either don't do it again, won't do it again, or can't do it again.

Detail

The people of Israel decided, based on 10 of the 12 spies report, that they wanted nothing to do with the promised land and wanted to go back to Egypt into slavery.   The other two men Joshua and Caleb told the people though the land be filled with giants and warriors we can take them because God said we could and had said this was the promised land.   They chose to turn their back on God and so God was going to kill them all in the desert and Moses intervened.  Moses ask God for mercy and God gave it. God decided that all the Israelites over 20 would die in the desert and would not be allowed to enter the Promised Land.  He condemned to 1 year in the desert for every day (40) the 12 spies had been in the Promised Land getting the information about the people and the land.  That meant that the Jews would have to wander in the desert for 40 years and all those over 20 would die before the Israelites could enter the promised land.  Joshua and Caleb would be the only exceptions because they were men of God and they followed His commandments and orders and did right in the sight of God.
