Summary
The Israelites were in a famine, they were starving to death because the Syrians had surrounded them and were not allowing food to come to the Jews. Elisha told them that he had a word from God and that they would be able to buy food at the Samaria gate the next day for next to nothing. So many did not believe and an officer even scoffed at the idea.
