Passage: Judges 16:4-31

Preacher: Dr. Doug McCart

Category: Living The Christian Life

Keywords: faith, power, focus, living in god's strength and power, not ours.

Summary

Samson was a man who was set aside and consecrated for and to God as a baby. He was blessed by God and was the strongest man to ever live. He was a bane to the Philistines in that he single-handedly killed thousands of their army . They were afraid of him and tired of him and wanted him gone. They payed Deliah to find his weakness so they could afflict Samson and make him an example to others who defied them. Samson had become arrogant and prideful and he had left the power of God and had moved on. God allowed his strength to be taken and then Samson had to live with the consequences of his actions and the fact he had left God's power.

Detail

Samson was a man of God for a long time but then began to slip and fall into the trap of pride and easy women.  He left the power of God and went out on his own power and because of that he could not resist Deliah who betrayed him to the Philistines and caused him to be captured, blinded and put into slavery.  At the end Samson cried out to God one more time to give him the power just one more time to kill those responsible for putting his eyes out and putting him in slavery.  God responded and Samson killed over 3,000 people that day, but he died with them.   His power and strength given just one more time.
